Leaves to holidays
The fields are quiet now, the air a little cooler, and the sun goes to bed way to early. . It’s that time of year when the garden rests and we finally have extra moments to breathe, and look back on all the beauty and bounty this farm during the growing season. This year, as we pack away our tools and tidy up the barn, our hearts are full of excitement for a new chapter: A wood shop at Red Barn & Lipstick.
The Red Barn part of Redbarn and Lipstick is my husband Tom -a veterinarian by trade, he has decided it’s time to trade some early mornings at the clinic for sawdust and sunshine. Turns out, Tom’s got a gift for woodworking. He’s happiest when working with his hands. From shaping simple blocks of wood into something beautiful and lasting gives him as much joy as caring for the fury friends he has doctored and loved for years.
His wood boxes tell a story, his cutting boards are ones that’ll be passed down, his sturdy benches are ready to hold a lifetime of memories.
Looking ahead at 2026, we are hoping to open the doors to a little walk-in shop right here on the farm. Picture shelves of fresh flower bouquets, jars of finishing salts, bundles of herbs, handmade soaps, and baskets of seasonal goodies alongside Tom’s handcrafted tables, benches, and wooden treasures. It’ll be a place where the scent of sawdust meets the sweetness of blooms.
We know times feel a little uncertain in the world right now. But here on the farm, we’re finding comfort in the simple things — honest work, creativity, and the joy of making something with our own hands. With Red Barn & Lipstick, our dream for retirement isn’t about slowing down — it’s about staying curious, creative, and grateful. Every piece we make, every flower we grow, every sale we make — it all feeds right back into the love of doing what we do.
So stay tuned, friends. We’ll keep you posted as the Red Barn & Lipstick workshop comes to life — with plenty of photos, stories, and a few surprises along the way.
💛 Until then, may your hands stay busy, your heart stay light, and your home smell like fresh wood and garden blooms.
Quiet in the beauty.
